NEWS and UPLOADS:
Welcome to my website. This website is designed to showcase my GCSE Photography work as well as any other work associated with photography. I started to build this website on Thursday 12th February 2015 in Weebly to act as a online exhibit and portfolio for my photographs. To be relocated back to the RMS website all you need do is hit the RMS PHOTOGRAPHY button. The course this journey leads to is the GCSE photography course developed by OCR. This course is divided into two parts: a portfolio task which will be started and completed later this year and the set task exam which will be commencing from January 2016 which will follow through up until Easter.

Wedding Decorations:
Wedding season consists of many different things, one of them including decorative table ornaments and displays. At this particular event, as a result of being bored, and the lighting being "on point", I managed to take an array of different photographs whilst keeping in mind the different variations of composition that build up my image, for example "The Rule of Thirds" and "The Diagonal Rule" as well as "Aspect Ratio" and "Leading Lines", not to mention "Curves" and "Frames". I also remembered to bare in mind that the layout and arrangement of the subjects would alter and affect the way in which the image would turn out. I experimented and altered the position of the glasses to make them appear different, for example, in one of the images, I arranged the glasses so that they appeared to be different sizes and were visible through the glass at the front. |
School Photography:
On a recent outing around the school, I have managed to take an array of photographs consisting of both portrait images and landscape photos. During the capture of these photographs, I have been experimenting with the exposure settings, altering the Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO settings to suit the present situation. Some images have appeared to be of a much better overall exposure in comparison to others. However, those images with a lower exposure act as a message to portray which situations need which exposure settings. This will also help me in the future as if I come across a similar situation and I make the same mistake, I will have a slightly better idea as to which component(s) of the exposure triangle need altering and possibly why they need to be altered.

School "Sponge the Teachers" Charity Event
As a result of the recent Nepal Earthquake crisis, a "Sponge the Teachers" charity event was organised within the school to help raise money and aid those affected by the natural disaster. 100% of this money was sent directly to these people in Nepal, and this was confirmed as members of our school have made connections with certain Nepalese teachers, in the areas of crisis. This was an extremely useful time to showcase my photography skills as I was able to show how I can alter the exposure to freeze droplets of water, sponges, and actions when people were throwing the sponges, to create a really nice droplet effect on an image, accentuating the enjoyment and feeling portrayed by the photographs. |

Light Theory:
A range of experiments enabled me to photograph a range of different situations where light is portrayed in a variety of different ways. I was able to see light in a new light...so to speak. I saw the electromagnetic spectrum by simply diffracting the light and shining it onto a dark surface, so that all the colours are visible, and are clearly distinguishable. These images were in fact quite hard to take, as the majority of the image was too dark for the camera to take, and the small proportion of light wasn't strong enough for the camera to detect. This resulted in me needing an extremely slow shutter speed, a fully open aperture, And a high ISO Sensitivity. |
|
Studio Setup:
During an organised studio setup at school, I, among many other students, were given the privilege to experiment with lighting and its setup to create different effects upon a set subject. When moving the lighting, it is evident that at certain angles of light, a warm toned subject is seen and so it creates a calm and peaceful effect, in comparison to when the angle of light presents you with a cold toned subject. In such a situation, the subject may appear spooky, or create a suspicious ambiance. |

School Buildings:
During my recent photography lesson, I was able to take photographs of places around the school. Some of these images looked really blurry and out of focus whereas some appeared clear and were of a good exposure. There are many examples of such good exposures, each image representing something else, with the exposure modified to suit the presented situation, in order for the image to look of the best quality. These images also show my experimentation of different focal points, which makes the same scene look completely different by focusing on a different aspect of the scene in front of you. |
|
Flowers:
My study of flowers has been continuous over the course of my photographic journey; one of my first photographs that I took was of a flower and I have significantly improved the way in which I capture this type of subject. A lot of these images, although they look similar, are slightly different as on each occasion, I experimented with a different aspect of the exposure triangle and altered it to suit a different scene. For example, some of these images were taken on a dark and cloudy day, and so I had to increase the ISO Sensitivity, widen the Aperture and slow down the Shutter Speed slightly to compensate for the lack of light and brightness. However, I had to make sure that I didn't increase these aspects too much as then the image would be over-exposed as well as being very grainy and noisy. |
|
Lessons:
Whilst I was out taking these images, I was bombarded with so many different ideas to use. One room was full of at least 3 different ideas and scenes to take images of and I was seen at the time to be flitting from place to place, trying to make the most of the time I have to take these images. |

Weddings:
Family weddings have their own sense of festivity to it. It all means a lot more when you are photographing weddings of a close relative than of someone you don't know. Each image shows a certain emotion and you feel as though you can either relate to or recognize and understand that moment or situation. Many recent and also upcoming weddings have given me a plenty of opportunities to take pictures and capture a vast number of these family moments. |

Hair and Make-Up:
As a daughter of a beautician, I have been blessed with the opportunity to take many images of beauticians at work and have been able to photograph soon-to-be and newly-wed brides and their families. I have also been granted the ability to attend many per-wedding functions which allowed me to photograph the true meaning behind these Asian weddings and the gave me an insight into such cultures. |

RakshaBandhan:
As a yearly festivity, many Hindus celebrate a festival called Rakshabandhan (brother-and-sister day) upon which the sisters tie a sacred thread on the brothers right hand as a form of blessing. As they tie this thread, they pray for their brothers long life, good health and prosperity. The brothers, in return for this blessing, give gifts to the sisters. These heartwarming occasions are a great place to capture a lifetimes worth of memories. On this occasion, it is extremely memorable to capture those intense moments when the sister is tying the thread onto her brother as this is the moment she is praying for his long life. Adults tend to be very orderly when performing this ritual as they have more understanding of the festivity compared to children. This also means that this tradition holds more meaning to them than children. |
Children take the aspect of Rakshabandhan completely differently and it is seen to be more of a reason to meet up with cousins rather than a festival. However, this tradition also helps the children to become familiar with new faces and makes it easier for them to see who is family and who their relations are. The get-together's on this day for children are very much child-like and can often be carried out at local parks, such as Watermead, or one particular house which is familiar to everyone. It is very common for the younger boys to compete to see who has the most ties on their wrist which adds an element of fun in this religious ritual.

Landscape:
There have been a plenty of occasions where I have been able to take wondrous images of the sky and the natural worldly beauty of the landscape around us. Many images that may appear to look perfectly exposed are actually just taken by chance due to the inability to change the components in the exposure triangle as standard digital cameras do not have such features. On a recent trip to London and Manchester, the early morning sunrise formed as the perfect photographic material needed to enhance my skills and ability to handle small digital cameras. There were a plenty of time where i was able to capture certain angles and reflections by accident which, even if purposefully created, would not look as unique and natural as that created by the angles and lighting of that single moment. |
Most of these photographs were taken at the same time of day, during the same photo-shoot, yet some look like they were set during a later time of day. This may be due to the change in subject, for example, changing from the sky to the trees may make the trees look darker and appear to be taken at night. Another reason may be that the effect on the camera may have been changed as well as the shooting mode. Some of these images were taken on a standard shooting mode whereas others were taken on a specific landscape setting.
During the summer holidays of 2014, I had been on a plane ride over Leicestershire. This was an absolutely trilling experience and I was able to take a vast range of wonderful shots of the scenic view beneath me. It amazed me how different Leicestershire looks from the sky in comparison to when we are walking around within it.

Theme Parks:
Upon visiting many theme parks with my family, I was awarded with the brilliant opportunity to capture fast, moving rides in such a way that they look as they were still to begin with. These images look sharp and in focus which is quite difficult to obtain when photographing moving subjects. |

Religious:
I have recently been around to an array of different religious occasions and have been presented with the wonderful opportunity to take a few amazing shots. There have been many idol shots taken, as well as a few images of religious displays and decorations. Around Diwali time, it is common for Hindus to carry out small prayers for the gods which includes washing the idols and blessing your new diary for the new year. This forms an ideal photographic moment as the array of traditional items are very eye-catching and are seen rarely as they are treasured mostly. Additionally, changing the exposure can lead to different effects, for a fast shutter speed can capture the flame of a diwa in its precise motion, whereas a slightly slower shutter speed can be useful to record the slight movement of the flame. |
RANKIN Research:
From November through til December of 2014, I have been working on an artist research study for a photographer called Rankin. I have studied the style in which Rankin likes to takes photographs in and have experimented by taking a few shots of my own in his style. I have been able to create four final pieces for this artist research study and have had many more ideas and inspirations come to me as an advantage to this study.
